Q: Is there anything different between the smart-e-bear, the dog, and the cat?

A: Nope, all three of our smart-e-friends come with the same preloaded content and each is just as smart as the next, so you can choose whichever one you think is the cutest!

Q: Can I see what songs you have for sale in your smart-e-store before I buy a smart-e?

A: You can go to www.smartebear.com/artists in order to read all about our children’s artists, many of who are award-winning as well as educational entertainers.

Q: Can smart-e say my child’s name?

A: Click here to see our database of over 1,000 boys’ and girls’ names!

Q: How do I install my smart-e-software?

A: Just go to www.smartebear.com/get-started and follow the instructions to download your smart-e-software. We ask everyone to register before installing so that you can set-up your account and get free downloads right away!

Q: Why does nothing happen when I connect my smart-e to my computer?

A: Whenever you connect your smart-e to your computer, remember to turn him on. (Hint: Connecting smart-e to your computer is sort of like downloading pictures off of a digital camera; you have to turn the device on to get the computer to recognize it.) Then, if it is your first time connecting your smart-e, go to www.smartebear.com/get-started and follow the instructions to download your smart-e-software. If you already have it installed, just go to your Applications folder in order to open your smart-e-software.

Q: How do I know which version of the Mac software to install?

A: You can look up which version of our Mac software your computer can run by checking here:

Q: How do I check for updates in my smart-e-software?

A: Just go to the main Help menu in the smart-e-software and select “Check for Updates” from the drop down menu. (Hint: Go to the Help menu at the very top of the application, not our Help section next to the smart-e-store.) If there is an update for your software it will let you know and ask if you would like to upgrade.

Q: How do I log into my smart-e-software?

A: There is a blue text Login button in the upper-right hand corner of the smart-e-software—click there and enter the email address that you used to register and your password. If it says Logout, it means that you are already logged in!

Q: Can I control the volume on my smart-e?

A: You sure can—just open the pouch in your smart-e’s back and click the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons on the plastic control box.

Q: Will my smart-e just stay on forever if I don’t open up his back to turn him off?

A: No, don’t worry—we made them super smart so that if you don’t answer a question three times in a row, they will eventually put themselves to sleep in order to conserve battery life. To wake your smart-e up again just squeeze his paws!

Q: Why does my smart-e keep “restarting” by saying hello again?

A: Sometimes when smart-e’s batteries are low he will periodically stutter and repeat himself. Just pop in a new pair of AA’s and you smart-e should be as good as new. If he is still acting up, give us a call at 1 (888) I LEARN 2 for customer support.

Q: Why won’t my smart-e turn on?

A: Try holding down the power button for 10 seconds. If that doesn’t bring your friend back to life, try changing the batteries. If your smart-e still won’t wake up, call us at 1 (888) I LEARN 2 and we can try and revive him for you.

Q: How do I change the batteries?

A: Simply open the pouch in your smart-e’s back and take out the plastic box. You’ll need a screwdriver to open the battery compartment, since we wanted to keep smart-e super-safe for little kids. Replace the two AA batteries and screw the cover back on.

Q: How do I make smart-e say my child’s name?

A: Connect your smart-e to your computer and turn him on. (Click here if you need to install your smart-e-software.) Open your smart-e-software from the Applications menu and once it opens click on the Play Planner tab. On the right hand side of the page, click the arrow or words that say, “Change name, language, or playmode.”  There is a drop-down menu that asks, “Who will play with this smart-e?” Simply select your child’s name and then click the green “smart-e-sync” button in order to put that name on your toy!  Depending on the size of your monitor, you may need to use the scroll bar to reach the green buttons to sync and eject.

Q: What if my child’s name is not in your list?

A: We have included over 1,000 of the most popular boys’ and girls’ names along with quite a few nicknames, but if your child’s name is not in our list you can always set your smart-e to say a great big hello without using a name.

Q: How do I make my smart-e just play music without asking any questions?

A: For younger children, or to turn your smart-e into a dance party DJ, just connect your smart-e to your computer, remember to turn him on, open your smart-e-software, and click on the Play Planner tab. Then create a Playdate with lots of songs. In the bottom right hand corner select “Shuffle” from the Playmode menu and then click the green “smart-e-sync” button. Shuffle mode will have your smart-e simply play all of the songs in your Playdate one after another without asking any questions. We recommend this for younger children or for a bedtime lullaby mix. (Hint: You can always switch back to the Normal, interactive Playmode the next time you sync!)

Q: How do I make my smart-e speak Spanish?

A: Connect your smart-e to your computer and remember to turn him on. Open your smart-e-software and click on the Play Planner tab. In the bottom right corner there is a mini-drop down menu where you can chose the language that your smart-e speaks. Just select Spanish and click the green smart-e-sync button!

Q: What is the smart-e-store and how do I get there?

A: The smart-e-store is an online store with thousands of songs, stories, games and more for your smart-e. We have over 50 award-winning children’s artists as well as a Disney section that will be coming soon! You get to the smart-e-store through your smart-e-software application and can purchase songs for as little as $0.99 to keep your smart-e growing with your child.

Q: How do I buy new songs, stories, games and more for my smart-e?

A: Open your smart-e-software and click on the smart-e-store tab on the top of the page. You can then browse thousands of songs, stories, games, and interactive adventures that will play on your smart-e. Pay with a credit card (Visa and MasterCard) or a Pay Pal account. Your purchases will automatically download into your Play Planner library and be ready to sync onto your smart-e.

Q: How do I find my kid’s favorite songs in the smart-e-store?

A: You can browse music in the smart-e-store by Title, Artist, and also by Theme. Our easy-to-use Theme Browser lets you search for songs about all sorts of fun and educational categories. So, if your child’s favorite songs are about Chickens, we have songs for you, and if you are interested in picking out a great Lullaby, we have a whole section waiting for you in the smart-e-store… just take a look!

Q: How can I give someone a smart-e-store gift certificate?

A: Gift Certificates are purchased just like any other item in our store. Remember, you must register before you purchase.  You can pay for Gift Certificates using the store’s standard payment method(s). Once purchased, the value of the Gift Certificate will be added to your own personal Gift Certificate Account. If you have funds in your store credit account, you will notice that the balance appears in the Gift Certificate box as well as on your personal My Account page. You can also purchase a Gift Certificate and then gift it to someone else.

Hint: If you are buying a smart-e as a gift and want to add songs onto him before you give him away, be careful because the new owner will not be able to keep those songs once they set up their own account. It may be better to just give them a gift certificate!

Q: How much music and other stuff can I put on my smart-e?

A: Your smart-e can remember and play over an hour of music, stories, games and more!

Q: Can I put music from my CDs onto my smart-e?

A: No. You can only download music, stories, games, and interactive adventures from our smart-e-store to play on your new friend; you cannot rip music from your own CDs and have your smart-e play that music.

Q: Can I import my iTunes library into my smart-e-software?

A: No. Right now your smart-e-software library, which we call your Play Planner, can only have content that came with your smart-e or that you download from our smart-e-store.

Q: What is a Playdate?

A: A Playdate is a collection of songs, stories, and games (or any combination of these) that you can put on your smart-e by syncing your toy with our smart-e-software. A Playdate can have games, stories, and/or a bunch of Playlists that each has songs with a cool theme in common. For example, you could have a Playdate that has Simon Says, The Three Little Pigs, a Playlist with tons of songs in Spanish, and another Playlist with three Lullabies. If you smart-e-sync your toy with this Playdate, your smart-e would then play all of these things.

Q: What if I want to just make a generic Playlist with songs that don’t have anything in common?

A: Our smart-e-software is pretty smart, so it will try and find something that your songs have in common. But don’t worry; if your songs really are about all sorts of different things, the software will just label your Playlist as “Music.”

Q: How do I make my smart-e play what I want?

A: You can create a whole new Playdate for your smart-e with music, stories, games, and interactive adventures (or any combination of the above). For a quick introductory tutorial, go to www.smartebear.com/tutorials. Basically, you just open your smart-e-software, plug in your toy and turn him on. Go to the Play Planner tab and look on the right-hand side, where there is a button that says, “Create a New Playdate.” Click there in order to start fresh. You can then name your Playdate and add whatever content you want by clicking on the “+Add” button next to all of the songs, stories, and games in your library. (Hint: Sometimes the songs in your Playlist have more than one thing in common, which means that you can choose how the Playlist is labeled and announced by your smart-e by clicking on the triangle to the right of the Playlist title and selecting from the available options in the drop down menu.)

Q: What is “All My Playdates”?

A:When you click on the “All My Playdates” tab in the smart-e-software, you can manage your Playdates here.  Remember that Playdates consist of games, stories, and/or a bunch of Playlists that each has songs with a cool theme in common.

In “All My Playdates”, you can delete Playdates, drag and drop songs and Playdates into your current Playdate, and select the active Playdates.

Q: What if I can’t find the answer to my question in this Help section?

A: Feel free to email us at info@intellitoys.com or call 1 (888) I LEARN 2 to leave a message for our customer support team. We will be sure to get back to you!
